Global Experience meets Local Impact: Kevin in Sydney

To support Australian organisations facing complex digital and IT challenges, we combine strong local delivery with deep global experience.
By drawing on international best practices while remaining closely connected to the unique business needs, we help clients build solutions that are not only technically sound, but sustainable, scalable, and fit for purpose.
Cape consultants regularly bring experience from different markets, industries, and delivery environments, supporting our local teams with fresh perspectives and proven approaches.

One of those consultants is Kevin, who recently joined our Sydney team. Read his first impression and experience here…⬇️

Can you tell us a bit about your background at Cape?

I started at Cape about 4 years ago as a Business & IT Consultant Trainee in the Netherlands. Since then, I’ve grown into a Medior Consultant, and I’m now taking on Lead Consultant responsibilities.

That journey has given me exposure to a wide variety of clients, technologies, and delivery models.

What kind of projects have you worked on in The Netherlands?

I’ve worked on quite a broad mix, actually, across different industries. I’ve worked on application development projects for construction companies, similar work for a food and meal supplier, and a software replacement programme for an organisation that supports people after fire incidents.

Most recently, I spent around 1.5 years developing and expanding the integration landscape for a large construction company. These projects helped me build a strong foundation in understanding complex environments, working with multiple stakeholders, and delivering sustainable solutions.

What project are you currently working on in Sydney?

In Sydney, I’m working on further development of an application that was recently replaced for our client. The main objective is to evolve the solution, so it fully supports the client’s business processes and future needs, not just technically, but operationally as well.

What is your role within the project?

I’m acting as Lead Consultant. That means I’m responsible for guiding the development work, aligning business and technical requirements, and supporting both the Australian team and the client throughout the delivery. It’s a role that sits right at the intersection of technology, business, and project leadership, which is something I really like.

How does your international experience add value for Australian clients?

Working across different markets changes and broadens your perspective. In Europe, I’ve gained experience with structured delivery approaches, integration patterns, and system transitions that translate well to complex Australian environments.

By now being part of the Sydney Team, that experience is applied in a way that fits local expectations, timelines, and ways of working.

The value really comes from combining global best practices with local execution.

What was your first impression of Sydney?

The first impression was a bit overwhelming, but in a positive way.
I come from a small city in The Netherlands, so the scale of Sydney already really stood out to me. What surprised me most, though, was how much nature there is within the city itself. It creates a great environment to work and collaborate in!

What has been the biggest challenge so far?

I think the biggest challenge for me was getting up to speed quickly on a solution that has already been built and continuing development within a short timeframe.
This requires a deep understanding of both the technical foundation and the business context, but that’s also what makes the work interesting and exciting at the same time.

What do you hope to achieve during your time in Australia?

While I’m here, I want to continue growing as a consultant, particularly in project management and leadership. The size and structure of the team in Sydney creates opportunities to take on diverse responsibilities, which accelerates both personal and professional development.

Final question, what do you think about the coffee in Australia?😉

Haha, easy one, I don’t think I can ever go back to vending‑machine coffee….

We’re very happy to have Kevin on board as part of the Cape Sydney team and excited about the value his global experience brings to our Australian clients.

His journey reflects what Cape is all about: make the future happen.
